Chronic Effect of HotBalloon-Based Wide Planar Ablation on Epicardial Adipose Tissue in Persistent Atrial Fibrillation

چکیده
Background: Adverse atrial remodeling, including epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) deposition in the left atrium (LA), is implicated fibrillation (AF). Radiofrequency hotballoon (RHB) ablation can produce wide planar lesions because balloon highly compliant; however, chronic effects of RHB on structural remodeling remain unknown. This clinical-experimental investigation characterized EAT persistent AF (PsAF).

Epicardial Adipose Tissue Thickness and Ablation Outcome of Atrial Fibrillation
OBJECTIVES Epicardial fat was closely related to atrial fibrillation (AF). Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) has been proposed to be a convenient imaging tool in assessing epicardial adipose tissue (EAT). The goal of the present study was to investigate whether the EAT thickness measured on TTE was a useful parameter in predicting procedural outcomes of AF ablations. METHODS AND RESULTS A ...

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most frequent cardiac arrhythmia in clinical practice. AF is often associated with profound functional and structural alterations of the atrial myocardium that compose its substrate. Recently, a relationship between the thickness of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and the incidence and severity of AF has been reported. Adipose tissue is a biologically active orga...

Catheter ablation is an effective treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, over long-term follow-up, it is becoming clear that AF often recurs and repeat ablation is required. With the goal of improving efficacy, particularly in those patients with risk factors for poor outcomes using a standard endocardial ablation technique, surgical epicardial ablation has emerged as an alternative m...
